Review for Society for Science & the Public, Washington, DC, USA

Rating: 5 stars

I became involved with science fairs when I helped some students with their science projects more than 10 years ago. This led to my judging local fairs and eventually judging the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) for the Society for Science and the Public (SSP). They regard good judging as essential. SSP gives it the resources and attention needed.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

the finalists as they develop their knowledge of science and research skills. They make friendships that will last a lifetime. SSP publishes "Science News" which is a very good science magazine.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

not make any changes. They are constantly looking for ways to be better.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

talking with the finalist and working with the staff and other volunteers.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

dedicated, friendly, helpful, knowledgeable.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

give more help to disadvantaged students.

Ways to make it better...

there was more time to talk to the finalists.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

making sure students who don`t have much to work with are are encouraged and their accomplishments recognized. The organization needs to encourage mentors and create other opportunities for as many students as possible.

One thing I'd also say is that...

they do a great job.

How frequently have you been involved with the organization?

About once a year

When was your last experience with this nonprofit?
