Review for Ellen Gifford Sheltering Home, Brighton, MA, USA
I was invited to the Gifford cat shelter to read from my book about my cat. I liked the place so much that I started volunteering for them--writing bios for the cats. Eventually, I became a volunteer adoption call counselor for the shelter. And then, the best thing ever happened--I adopted a two-year-old tabby named Tillie from them! You won't find a shelter that knows its cats better, or that welcomes volunteers with more appreciation of, and respect for, whatever talents and skills they have to offer. If you're familiar with the concept of the "third place," then you know what Gifford is to all of us who volunteer there. Not home, not work, but that third place where we feel a sense of belonging. Pic is of me and Tillie after getting home on the night I adopted her.
