Review for 1K Nation, Inc., Jacksonville, FL, USA

Rating: 5 stars

1K NATION INC., is an important resource in our north side community. A community which is underserved, undereducated, underemployed, underinsured, underrepresented just to name a few deficiencies.

In spite of the many deficiencies in our community the 1K NATION INC. Organizations through the Haslem Family and community volunteers are making a difference in the lives of the youth in our community.

The youth receive daily words on morals and uplifting advice as they communicate with the staff and volunteers of 1K NATION. Most importantly.... but not limited to the discussions; but also .... in the actions, words and deeds of those dedicated staff members and community volunteers.

Academically, 1K NATION assist in homework assignments by encouraging the youth the importance of reading and doing homework to review and strengthen learning skills introduced in class.

STEM is approached as a hands on opportunity to experience Science, Technology, Engineering and Math through fun and exciting educational concepts and experiments which the youth receive the satisfaction of completing goals.

Strengthening also the homelife of our youth through parents meetings and volunteer involvement. Parents are given tried and true advice on child rearing from elders in the community. Sometimes it is accepted othertimes it may be dismissed as old fashion. But for the most part, the youth respond to the love and respect shown within 1K NATION. Parents often ask Mr. Haslem, “ How did you get them to do that?” Speaking as a volunteer observer and helper, I see love and respect as the main focus of 1K NATION staff and volunteers as the number one reason the youth of 1K NATION respond positively to the Haslems and volunteers.

I encourage the community to volunteer to giveback what was given to the youth of Simonds-Johnson Park in our youth. Please come back and give to the child that was once “YOU” .
Giveback what Coach Carlton “Soft Kid” Bryant and his wife , Sallie Bryant gave so unselfishly to the youth of our times. Coach Bryant served the community as the charter coach in 1955. He coached over 30years, coaching Simonds-Johnson Park longer than any coach thereafter.
The community thrived doing those years with Simonds-Johnson Park being the lifeblood to the youth and citizens of our community. For many years after Coach Bryant’s retirement; our community was allowed to deteriorate as the SJ Park Community Center went understaffed or unstaffed by the City Parks and Recreation Dept.

Today..... 1K NATION operates out of the SJ Park Community Center in partnership with JAXPARKS . The community is trying to revitalize with the help of 1K NATION INC., JAXPARKS and other community groups. 1K NATION INC. encourages the community through their inclusive approach to the youth and citizens of our community.

Thanks to all that are trying to make a difference to our community.

You ask, “How to stop the violence?”
