Review for CJ Acres Animal Rescue Farm, Keystone Heights, FL, USA
Where do I begin! I found CJ Acres Farm Animal Rescue after deciding that I wanted to contribute to World Day for Farm Animals (October 2, 2018) this year within my community. CJ Acres was the closest farm sanctuary to my home. My absolute life’s dream is to start a sanctuary of my own, so I find myself being pulled towards sanctuaries & rescues where I can give my love, time & resources. I created a last minute fundraiser and in addition to my personal donations, I was able to fill my truck with food & supplies for my sanctuary visit. I was in contact with Lee Sackett (owner/founder) from day 1 and was delighted with the quick responses and professionalism he and his volunteers bestowed.
Upon arriving at the sanctuary, my first feeling was just....... peace; like what you would feel when you think of “sanctuary”.
I almost immediately met a few of the resident pigs...Hemingway & JJ, but at that time, didn’t know their names or stories. I was greeted by Malissa, a sweet, faithful volunteer, who recently moved from Texas (she volunteered much of her time in Texas doing similar farm animal sanctuary work). Moments later, founder, Lee appeared from the private home located on the property. Yes! He lives here too. After our introduction, Lee began telling me about his personal history, his startup, the sanctuary’s history etc. Little by little, I met all of the sanctuary’s residents. There was a recent litter of piglets born (currently 4 months old) that followed us around at the beginning. Their mother was pregnant at the time of her rescue. It’s amazing how smart pigs are! Lee and Malissa have been working with them on behavioral/training techniques such as “sit”, “stay”, etc. Techniques one would find most common when training domestic dogs! I was shocked with how well the piglets listened!
Lee’s mission is very clear... rescue, rehabilitate and reintroduce. CJ Acres is 100% volunteer operated & donation based. I was also delighted to learn of the various events they host such as “Wine with Swine”, which is a dinner & wine tasting experience that takes place in stations inside each of the habitats.....100000% vegan of course!
I had the great pleasure to meet every single resident at the sanctuary and learned their stories. I captured lots of videos and pictures of the residents and shared them (& their history) all to my Facebook page (Kristen LovesRescue) in detail, of where they came from, what horrific actions people did to them, and was able to enjoy time with them now, at peace, living out their remaining years.... fully LOVED & CARED for!
I wish every community had a CJ Acres. I’m happy mine does, as I plan to spend as much time as I can, volunteering and contributing to events, so they can continue saving animals. I still have sooooo many more amazing things to say about CJ Acres, but I encourage you to schedule a visit and experience the greatness yourself. I’m a huge animal advocate and I’m truly grateful to have spent time with these beautiful sentient beings, to share their struggles and constantly be a megaphone for them. All lives matter!
