My Nonprofit Reviews
Review for Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA, Burlingame, CA, USA
Around 1986 or 1987 there was an oil spill in the Bay, and there were many ducks and birds covered with oil and near death. PHS brought them to the shelter and put a call out for temporary volunteers to help the existing volunteers and staff to help clean them. I was flying as a flight attendant and had a lot of time between flights. I thought I would help them for a few weeks. After the crisis softened, I decided to stay full-time as a volunteer because of my love of animals, but also because of the caring and compassionate staff and volunteers I met while there. I am still there more than 30 years later and still loving the organization and people. I also learned from that time so long ago about how well Dawn soap works for cleaning oil and grease.
