Review for The Pain Community (a DBA of Women With Pain Coalition), Alamo, CA, USA

Rating: 5 stars   Featured Review

The Pain Community absolutely far exceeds my expectations and that is why I want to share my story. A person who lives with pain has a life that is constantly changing. It is hard to plan for anything even simple everyday things like going to a grocery store or for a doctor appointment. Now we are living within a pandemic and it just got so much harder to be a person living with pain and chronic illness. Like so many I am scared and my anxiety was beyond high and I decided to try one of the weekly support calls and let me tell you, what a wonderful experience it was. The moderator on the call was understanding and patience with me as I had a full on anxiety attack as we were talking. She was calm and spoke softly and compassionately and helped me slow my breathing down. She also used a distraction technique that I had never heard of to help me calm. She asked me to name 5 things I could see, 4 things I could feel, 3 things I could hear, 2 things I could smell and 1 thing I could taste. She was so patience with me and her distraction technique worked and helped me so much. We continued to talk and the more I listened to her soft voice, the calmer I got. I just want her and anyone who reads my story to know how much her being there on the other end of that phone line that day meant to me.

The Pain Community is different from other pain advocacy organizations. The Pain Community does advocate for all people with chronic illness. However, they also help us learn how to advocate for ourselves and others. They spend time one on one if we need it. They are all about true support and they are also people living with pain so they truly understand.
