Review for Business Council For Peace, Inc. (Bpeace), Southampton, NY, USA

Rating: 5 stars

Volunteering for Bpeace has been one of the most fulfilling experiences of my life. I started volunteering in 2005 and have worked on a huge range of projects since then. I've met amazing people from around the world and around the U.S. who have enriched my life immeasurably. Bpeace makes volunteering so easy and fun. When I join a team to work on a project, I always feel like I'm making a real contribution.

The photo below is when I made my first trip with Bpeace to Kabul, Afghanistan in 2005. I had the opportunity to meet Afghan business women in their homes and in their places of businesses. The women I met on that trip welcomed me with so much grace and hospitality. The whole experience changed the way I think about Afghan women. I was deeply impressed by how strong, resilient and committed they are to their own future and the future of their country.

The work Bpeace does builds bridges between cultures and people while creating jobs and more economic opportunity for the communities we work in.

At a time when there is so much need in the world, it is fulfilling to be able to make a difference through volunteering with Bpeace. The Bpeace leadership and staff are tuned into each of their volunteers and make an extraordinary effort to match each volunteer with projects that suit them and give them a sense of accomplishment. Since joining in 2005, I have been involved in countless projects. I’ve taught marketing and strategy skills to Afghan businesswomen and presented branding and logo designs to Rwandan entrepreneurs. I’ve been on the Executive Council, providing input and ideas to the Board and I’ve hosted fundraisers that have inspired friends to join me in contributing resources and skills to the positive impact Bpeace makes. I am currently mentoring a young Syrian woman refugee as she pursues her dream to become an expert in resolving the issues that refugees face around the world. Bpeace has given me a way to use my skills to give back and has provided me with a community of amazing, talented people to work with.

My life got bigger and more fulfilling the day I became a volunteer with Bpeace. In 2005 when I joined Bpeace I stepped into a community of smart, organized and committed women and men who are all about empowering women. A new world opened up to me when I took my first trip to Afghanistan to provide marketing and strategy skills to business women there.

Since then I've had the privilege of serving in many roles in the organization. I'm currently a member of the team that is designing and implementing the mentoring program in Lebanon where we are working with Syrian and Lebanese university students. 20 Bpeace mentors are sharing their practical experience and hard-earned wisdom with 18 young women who are learning how to realize their dreams.

My husband and I are co-mentoring a bright young Syrian woman. It is deeply fulfilling to guide and encourage her as she gets clear about her goals and takes steps to achieve them. Speaking with her is a delight and gives us hope for the future of Syria.

Bpeace makes it easy and fun to use my skills to make a difference. The combination of meaningful projects with a super-organized team creates an experience that both stretches me and satisfies my need to make a contribution to others. Thank you Bpeace!
