Review for Doing Right By Rescues, Pennington, NJ, USA
Pam has been a tremendous help to us with our dog. When he came to us (originally as a foster), he was filled with fears due to the conditions of the first 2 years of his life. Although he learned to trust us fairly quickly, finding a home for him was challenging because he was unwelcoming and defensive of anyone even coming near him, especially men. Having owned all types of dogs most of our lives we felt we were knowledgeable but we were starting to feel we were not able to give this dog what he needed.
We went to Pam for help. She was able to assess a lot of things about him with how he reacted to various stimulus. She was able to give us tremendous insight in how he was communicating with us and how we should be reacting to him. She pointed out a lot of things we never noticed about him. She also gave us several ideas of things we can do to help ease his fears and become less defensive with strangers.
When we walk our dog now, he actually approaches strangers wanting them to pet him. He used to actually bark at them and lunge toward them to get them to back away from him. In our home, he used to bark frequently because of all of his fears, and sometimes it seemed for no reason. We had almost forgotten how he used to do that because he is so happy and relaxed now. Friends of ours that came to our house when we first got him had come over a few months ago. They were so impressed with how much he had improved from the first time they saw him.
We officially adapted him almost a year ago. We went from thinking his problems were more than we could handle to not being able to live without him. Pam's involvement with him and us is a direct result of that.
