After the earthquake that rocked Haiti I travelled to Bernard Mevs with an Emergency Room doctor from Florida Hospital in Orange City that I worked with. Before leaving Florida the decision was made that I was not to travel with the group as a paramedic would not be useful. Well Dr. Wayne Barry insisted that my presence would be helpful and I was once again on the welcome list! The most exhilarating week, full of hard work and endless nights that changed my life forever! I had been on mission trips to Mexico before, but nothing compared to the work in Haiti. I still keep in touch with a young woman from Canada that brought a sick infant to Bernard Mevs. She, with some strong supporters are operating an orphanage in Carries and has adopted the baby stabilized by Bernard Mevs and his twin brother. I can never thank the staff and those who allowed me to experience Haiti and all its beauty enough! I will continue to support this nonprofit and hope to one day return.
