My Nonprofit Reviews
Review for Humanity For Children, Columbia, MO, USA
I was very fortunate to be able to travel with other Humanity for Children volunteers on a trip to some of their funded partners in Rwanda and Tanzania in January, 2018 and experienced first hand the warmth, hospitality, and good will extended by these partners as they engage in community-building projects that empower women to improve the lives of their families. I heard personal testimonies from many women who spoke about how their participation in the projects funded by Humanity for Children had transformed their lives by providing them a means of income not previously available - and this income had allowed them to better fund their children's' education, secure stable housing, and strengthen their agency within their marriages.
In brief, HFC provides small-scale grants to community associations who bring forward projects that will be sustainable (in 5 years) and improve the lives of women and children. By way of example, some of these economic empowerment projects have included livestock projects, beekeeping projects, and the provision of sewing machines for producing school uniforms. HFC has also funded health related projects including the constructing regional health clinics, engineering safe water supplies, and training traditional birth attendants in safer birth practices. In each case, HFC works to help realize vision of local stakeholders who want to to build stronger communities by empowering women.
Witnessing this first had was an amazing, uplifting experience that is beyond anything I've ever experienced - and I'm retired from a very satisfying career as a physician. I can't say enough about the good work of HFC!
