Review for Red Creek Wildlife Center Inc, Schuykl Havn, PA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

I’v taken many different species of wildlife to Red Creek Wildlife Center. My latest was a male Eastern Box Turtle. I see many box turtles in my rural backyard, but this turtle was acting differently. He just sat in this one spot for the longest time. I went out to him and offered him some fresh tomato. He had his head tucked in his shell. He smelled it but didn’t eat any of it. After about an hour, I went back out again, that’s when I saw that both his ears had abscesses. I knew he had to go to Red Creek Wildlife Center. My husband and I dropped him off. I knew he was in excellent hands. Kat was in charge of reptiles. He was there a month. I called with his case number and was updated on his condition. It was exactly a month when I got the phone call to pick him up. Turtles need to go back to their original territory. I was so happy he was abscess free. I see him like every third day making his way across the backyard to get some water in a creek. He takes his time with life. I offer cantaloupe, tomatoes, raspberries and bananas. He eats something every time I see him, then he goes on his merry way. Red Creek Wildlife Center did a fantastic job with him.

A Northern Bobwhite quail found its way to my home, I fed it every day for 2 1/2 months. Didn't know his story, it was likely that he escaped a quail shoot at a rod and gun club about a mile from my house. Here comes February, with that severe polar vortex. It was so brutally cold outside, I thought he would die. I made the decision to take him to Red Creek after I talked to Peggy about him. He was easy to capture and he lived the next year and a half at Red Creek. These people are so dedicated to wildlife. Everyone there loved my "Bobby".
