Review for SOROPTIMIST INTERNATIONAL OF HUNTINGTON BEACH, Huntington Beach, CA, USA
Soroptimist International of Huntington Beach has helped our CARE Students from Golden West College by offering scholarships. C.A.R.E. (Cooperative Agencies Resources for Education) is a state funded program designed to assist single parents who are recipients of TANF/CalWORKs who are attending college and are guided and supported to achieve their educational goals. The CARE program was established by AB3103 (Hughes, Statutes of 1982. Chapter1029) to assist EOPS students, who are at the time of acceptance into CARE are recipients of CalWORKs, single heads of households with children, to break the welfare-dependency cycle by completing college-level educational training programs, and therefore, become more employable and economically self-sufficient. CARE was initiated at the first state-funded program of its kind in the nation. Our students have many obstacles that can keep them from dropping out of school, but with the help of Soroptimist Scholarships, students can achieve their educational goals. Below is a picture of Terry Rose one of our CARE partners, she assist our students with educational workshops, scholarships, and she is a EOPS/CARE/GS Advisory Board member. The other picture is the CARE students in which six students graduated this year. Congratulations to the Class of 2018 we are so proud of you. And thank you Soroptimist International for all that you do to help our students. Lorena Perez, Golden West College CARE Program Specialist.
