Rock to Recovery has been providing groups in the substance abuse treatment centers I oversee for the past five years. From the first group, it was evident they were doing something truly special. Their groups are fun and engaging for the clients. They also provide an avenue for them to express themselves in ways they are not always able to with traditional talk-therapies. Creating a song that expresses their feelings is sometimes much less threatening for clients who have difficulty verbalizing their struggles. Music is such a positive creative outlet and many clients have found their experiences in Rock to Recovery to be incredibly healing. They also feel a sense of accomplishment and community at the end of the group when they have worked together to create something positive.
