My Nonprofit Reviews
Review for All Hands and Hearts, Mattapoisett, MA, USA
My first volunteer experience with All Hands and Hearts (formerly All Hands Volunteers) was in April 2017 in Denham Springs, Louisiana. I signed up to volunteer for 2 weeks during the recovery phase after the flooding in August 2016. Going into my experience, I had no previous knowledge or skills required to build homes. The staff is incredibly patient and helpful as many volunteers are, as I was, completely new to this kind of trade. This experience was absolutely life changing. The people, both the staff and volunteers, were so authentic, passionate, and dedicated to serving the communities affected by disaster. The communal living, while a bit of adjustment, functions successfully and encourages bonding, connection, and respect among volunteers and staff members. AHAH is an organization that radiates integrity and remains true to their mission and values. Also, you do not pay to volunteer. This creates an open door to bring in more volunteers that otherwise may have been deterred by costs. All are welcome, all are accepted, all are appreciated.
