Review for Share Self-Help for Women with Breast or Ovarian Cancers, Inc., New York, NY, USA
I came to SHARE as a volunteer in 1995. In 1998 I began working part time coordinating programs in Queens, New York. In 2002 I became the Director of SHARE's Ovarian Cancer programs until Spring 2009. SHARE had been there for me and I wanted to give back. At the time of my original breast cancer diagnosis there were other organizations out there. SHARE was the only one that empowered me while supporting me. The opportunities at SHARE are endless. You can come to SHARE when you are in need and leave, but why would you when you learn giving back can be a way to support you too. I now find myself living with two cancers and SHARE is there for me once more but I am there for SHARE. I can't wait until I have the energy to give back once more.
I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
support groups, through the hotlines, advocacy work, and programs.
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
Find more funding to support all of the work SHARE does.
Ways to make it better...
The office facilities were larger.
In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...
Money. SHARE has lots of ideas and programs that could be implemented if funding were available.
