Review for Friends Of Santa Cruz County Parks, Santa Cruz, CA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

County Parks Friends continues to challenge all of us to think bigger and consider the "what if?" questions when it comes to providing increased access to outdoor spaces for youth and families. Spinning off an Executive Director and supporting board with stellar energy and broad vision, their efforts are making a tangible difference in the lives of numerous communities in SC County. This effort is inviting all of us to look within ourselves to get a vision of what our outer world should, and can look like.

YFIOB is the local gold standard when it comes to exposing school-age youth to careers.
As a longtime educator, I have witnessed its impact on many of my former students. Similarly, adults who serve as mentors (and those who are career speakers, job shadow hosts, etc.), invariably benefit through their interactions with youth in their orbits.
YFIOB weaves together integral pieces of our local community, providing vital education and exposure to students WHILE serving as a launch pad to filling vital jobs that our community desperately needs and will benefit from for years.

YFIOB is the connective tissue between local schools and local and regional employers. They continue to provide vital resources that enhance the community's awareness about regional workforce needs vs. what local school are doing to prepare students in terms of career awareness.

YFIOB is the gold standard that links local education to industry and employers. Mary and her team of interns have orchestrated numerous career-related opportunities for local students of all ages. I have witnessed multiple presentations; all are stellar examples of a collaboration which benefits local youth on many levels.

Review for Court Appointed Special Advocates of Santa Cruz County, Watsonville, CA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

Amidst a sea of stellar local non-profits, CASA of Santa Cruz County stands out personally because it allows me, and many others in our community, to invest time and talent into the most deserving members imaginable: youth who've been victimized by abuse and neglect, taken from their homes through no fault of their own.
After working on behalf of adolescents and teens for most of my career, I made a conscious choice well before retirement that, once my career wound down, I would pursue being trained as a CASA advocate, and be able to serve formally on behalf of a youth in our county whose life has been altered by being part of the dependency care system.
As we age, I firmly believe that many adults indeed forget what it was like to be young. As a society, we cannot afford to lost sight of our obligation to serve the neediest among us. Foster Youth deserved the very best we have to offer. What's within YOU that a young person could benefit from knowing? Expertise, patience, optimism, TIME? In getting to know CASA you will get to know aspects of yourself that may have lain dormant for years or decades. I am proud to serve as an advocate and urge anyone reading this to get to know CASA of Santa Cruz County.
