Review for Mercy Trips Healthcare Outreach, Fort Worth, TX, USA
I have been on two Medical/Missionary trips with Mercy Trips Healthcare Outreach and will be going again in July....As a RN and a Surgical Nurse, I am amazed at the healthcare they have been able to provide with the minimal amount of supplies they have to work with. Use to working in a well equipped OR, needless to say I was a little taken back when I arrived the first year to encounter an OR that had the bare necessities. Having worked for over 30 years in an OR it was the first time I had ever seen a "bellow" ether machine, used for giving anesthesia. The healthcare providers do a amazing job with the equipment they have to work with. Mercy Trips is well organized with experienced personnel and organizers who are always willing to learn and improve the way things are done and make things more productive while utilizing the items available.
More Feedback
I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
The after surgical care when we would make post-surgical rounds in the wards, when interacting with the people of Uganda,at church services, in the local villages, from the smiles, hugs recieved from the people themselves who are gracious in giving thanks.
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
Expand to more outlying villages in Africa to provide care for. Also expand the outreach to other third world countries who are in need of help.
What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...
the unity of those participating from all over the United States and the with the people of Uganda who I was able to help provide medical care for.
The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...
Dedicated/caring individuals who were joined together with the common cause of helping those in need, and a deep faith in God.
If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...
spread it's outreach to more countries, and make improvements in the present medical equipment to provide more modern up to date medical care.
Ways to make it better...
I would have had more time to get outside the OR and interact more with the people.
In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...
Funding for medical supplies, with need of greater access to antibotics, anit-malarial medicine and surgical equipment to help update the present equipment which is far outdated.
One thing I'd also say is that...
Not being sure if Mercy Trips found me or if I found Mercy Trips....but I can be sure that having worked with them my life has been improved and expanded by the example the volunteers and organizers of this wonderful group have shown.
