Community Collaboration at its best! Mr. Watford, a disabled Marine Corps Veteran reached out to Mission United at the United Way of South Hampton Roads to request a new walker. "When you're impacted by job loss and living on a fixed income, it's a challenge to get by day to day", said Mr. Watford. The Mission United Director met with Mr. Watford and immediately noticed his current walker was missing its wheels. In the photo provided you can clearly see the path created by the constant force of the old walker against the concrete. There was also balance related concerns when pushing the old, worn walker which almost lead to mobility impairment for the veteran. The Mission United Director immediately contacted Access Partnership to request a new walker. The Veteran and Mission United Director met with a representative from Access Partnership. The Veteran was allowed to 'shop' for a new wheeled walker and cane! Mr. Watford received a new, easy to fold and store wheeled walker, one that aids in stability and allows for a more fluid gait. This new wheeled walker also has easy, push button folding mechanisms and adjustment heights.
