Review for WestSide Baby, Seattle, WA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

I've been volunteering at Westside Baby for about 6 years. I saw an ad in the West Seattle Herald and had been looking for a volunteer opportunity. We provide clothing, diapers and toys through about 100 social service agencies in King County and surrounding areas. Most of our items are donated, although occasionally I'm given an amount of money to spend on especially needed items (boys pants sizes 4-12) so I go shopping, usually at the Value Village up in Everett as they have the most amazing supply of pants. When I arrive at the cash register with a shopping cart of pants, the cashier asks what I'm up to and I get to tell the story of WestSide Baby. We have a great group of volunteers who come regularly. The volume of requested items is amazing, many from people who have just arrived in this country or lost everything in a fire. It feels great to have a "hands on" job and I look forward to being there three times a week.

I started volunteering at WestSide Baby about 4 years ago and have been committed to it ever since. What I see in the orders we receive is so much need and this continues to grow as the economy is in such difficulty. I helped organize a "sew-in" last year when we had a huge donation of fleece, and we made over 100 each blankets and baby wraps. We have a great group of volunteers, lots of comraderie and many laughs. Come along and give us a hand.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Seeing the smiles on the social workers face when we can provide just what their clients need.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

Knowing that the needy kids out there are getting some really nice clothes, beds, diapers, books and toys.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Interesting, funny. We support each other when things are rough and laugh as much as we can

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Buy carseats and portacribs and high chairs and strollers for all the orders we receive!!!!

How frequently have you been involved with the organization?

About every week

Role:  Volunteer & I volunteer at WestSide Baby usually three times a week -- Monday, Wednesday and Saturday. While there, I usually fill orders from the social workers -- there seem to be more and more each week. I occasionally buy equipment (umbrella strollers) for the .
