Review for Community Initiatives, Oakland, CA, USA
The Diabetes Hands Foundation was Model-C fiscally sponsored project of Community Initiatives for a number of months, during our 2009-2010 Fiscal Year. The service and value we received from the CI team was amazing! Since we first learned about them, I have done my best to promote their great work for Bay Area-based nonprofit projects, since more people need to know about this way to do good without having to be a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
two ways: through a project that we received a grant for, which was designated to be given to a 501(c)(3) nonprofit; and through our fundraising campaign in September 2009.
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
make their work known to as many people as possible. What they can do for groups seeking to help others, thinking that the only way is to become a 501(c)(3) could result in thousands of hours and dollars saved and more people getting helped sooner.
What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...
The people: they are most personable AND knowledgeable, making working with them a joy and a great experience.
The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...
Phenomenal!!! From Prudy who rocks as an Office Manager to Ani who is amazing on-boarding and helping new projects learn the ropes all the way to Melanie, the CEO!
Ways to make it better...
I had known about them before we had gone through all the work we went to become a 501(c)(3). :)
In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...
Marketing themselves more to the sector.

Review for Diabetes Research Institute Foundation, Inc., Hollywood, FL, USA
Having visited DRI in Miami once, I was very impressed with the way the institute is set up with the goal of finding a cure as its core, resulting in the tearing of inter-departmental barriers to facilitate collaboration internally. Also, it was impressive to learn about the efforts to create a DRI Federation to facilitate collaboration with other research institutions all over the world. They are without a doubt the best hope there is for a cure for diabetes!
