NHES uses direct methods and public education to help dogs, cats, other domestic animals, wildlife, and communities nationwide. NHES corrects and prevents threats to these groups, both by direct means (couseled adoptions, Spay Today programs, and animal rescue) and with widespread education programs that reach thousands of K-12 students and adults. Programs and workshops cover topics such as responsible pet ownership, the benefits of spay/neuter, dog safety and bite prevention, methods for teaching humane education/animal welfare, and address the importance of compassion and empathy in young students. In doing so, NHES shows thousands of people the practices that improve the lives of animals and communities at large.
