I have volunteered with COTA for 7 years in a row, because it is an extremely well run organization, that is very well integrated with the local community. They are meticulous about doing no harm and making sure that every patient gets the best possible care, and the appropriate follow-up they need, which is not true of all medical mission organizations. This is because they go only to Guatemala every year, so they have many local contacts who they communicate with throughout the year. They don't just fly in, operate, leave, and hope that nobody had any bad complications. They really care about their patients, and try to work collaboratively with the local hospitals, to achieve the best results.

This was my second year with COTA. It's just a great group of people with really big hearts, taking care of a very appreciative, very deserving patient population. It's really a pleasure and a privilege to be a part of it. And if Mike and Omer are reading this, I just bought 4 brand new sen retractors off amazon to bring down for next year...sweet.
