The HSUS combats cruelty from all angles: on-site rescues, investigations, helping to change laws to prevent cruelty ("lobbying"), shelter education, spay/neuter programs, disaster rescue. Their full-on approach encompasses all animals, from companion pets to livestock... no one animal is less deserving of humane treatment than another, they all feel pain the same way. It is this well-rounded and all-encompassing approach that makes me a support of the HSUS. Their accomplishments are nothing short of amazing. As an animal lover, I am very grateful to have these guys on my side!

Animal crush videos (pornographic videos depicting the crushing, maiming, torture and deaths of cats, dogs, rabbits, etc.) were legal in the US for some time. The HSUS took a major role in "lobbying" for better laws to prohibit these videos and protect countless animals from being exploited in the most cruel and disgusting way. The took this head-on and as a result, these videos are now outlawed in the US.

I really don't have any suggestions at the time. They are the leading animal welfare agency in the US for a reason; they know their stuff.

Review for The Center For Organizational Research And Education, Arlington, VA, USA
I had come across various sources from CCF and some of the campaigns they are running. I questioned their motives and wondered why they would be attacking these particular organizations, such as Mother's Against Drunk Driving and the Humane Society of the United States. After doing a bit of research, it was clear that the CCF is being paid by the industries that profit off of alcohol and meat or fast food, industries whose bottom lines might be affected by the charity organizations they've sent attack dogs on. CCF is nothing more than a paid mouthpiece, doing the talking that the corporations don't want to do because it would be bad for their image. Don't fall for the CCF or any of their misinformation campaigns. Stay healthy, keep drunk drivers off the street and continue to fight for the welfare of animals... money might speak for the CCF, but it sure doesn't speak for me. Just Google "Center for Consumer Freedom" for lots of information about their deceitful "non-profit" front group.

I've read their advertisements that they've published in the NY Times...they might be reaching a lot of viewers, but their results are obviously not very good because people still think drunk driving is wrong and still believe its good to protect animals.

The HSUS is a strong, unwavering voice for all animals. Many people would prefer that the HSUS only focus on shelter pets, which I agree is an important task, but that is not HSUS mission. HSUS fights to protect ALL animals, not just the ones we call our pets, but also the ones we eat, the ones we see at the circus, the ones who live in the wild, the ones who are being affected right now by the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. HSUS works to shut down dog-fighting rings, put an end to puppy mills and help improve the welfare of livestock. People that post about HSUS not putting enough money into shelters are simply not seeing the whole picture and the entire mission of the HSUS. ALL animals deserve protection, not just our pets.

Livestock Welfare- Many of the restaurants I go to have made the switch over to cage-free eggs at HSUS recommendation. I am very happy with this switch as forcing hens to live in tiny battery cages is cruel and inhumane.
What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...
their work on the human/animal bond. The things they have done to help end dog-fighting in our country. The work they've done with restaurants to promote better well-being of livestock.
The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...
well-informed, intelligent and compassionate.
If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...
give livestock better living conditions and a better quality of life. It could help the shelter animals find homes by being the main source of pets, rather than pet shops who are supplied by puppy mills.
