My Nonprofit Reviews
Review for Childrens Book Project, San Francisco, CA, USA
This was the brain child of one of my oldest friends, Vicki Pollack. We know children must read and reread to become lifelong learners. We know children must be read to. Vicki did something about it. She began asking her friends and their friends to donate books their kids were done with. She then found ways to redistribute them to parents and children who needed books in their lives. The project grew and grew. The space she created now looks like a bookstore. Teachers and parents from around the Bay Area come to pick up free books. It is amazing to think of the many children whose bedrooms and internal lives this project has developed. It is still going strong. It should be modeled nationally.
Review for Ceres, Boston, MA, USA
I learned about Ceres when I was active in the campaign to divest the NYC pension funds. I read up and learned how much Ceres information we were using. I read a great deal of the Ceres information and called the office of our NYC Comptroller. Their lead person called me back and as he answered my many questions, i realized he was confirming my suspicion that we had more to gain by remaining invested. I put together a panel discussion and the Comptroller's office helped me get a Ceres person to come down from Boston to participate. Needless to say I got thrown out of 350.NYC. I now donate annually to Ceres. I like adult solutions.
