I started volunteering at Saffrey Sanctuary on a whim. Esta asked me why I was there - I didn't have an answer then, but I do now.

I realized that the real reason I was there was because I had a lot to learn, not just about the humane way to feed, handle, and be with a horse, but how to be a human alongside other beings. The horses are brilliant, and the people are loyal to their cause. Esta, John, Karen, and the horses continue to instill a greater sense of purpose, tenderness, and understanding in me.

Saffyre is not just a sanctuary where abused, neglected and misunderstood animals come to thrive; it is also where people come to flourish.
