Review for The Women's Center of Southeastern Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI, USA

Rating: 5 stars

The Women's Center and it's director, Kim Cumming, set a standard for me. I spent a year working as an intern therapist while in graduate school. During that time, I learned not only the skills to become a good therapist, but also gained an image of the ideal. The Women's Center is the kind of organization that allows interns, clients and staff to feel empowered, respected and important. As my supervisor, Kim taught me how to empower people to change their own lives. I learned that this allows for lasting change, rather than the impulse to provide for or

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

the clients I worked with and in the inspiration I felt through my involvement.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

create a larger staff- money dependent- to allow the management to be spread amongst more people, allowing for less burn out amongst the few working so hard.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

it's attempts to always change and grow with the current needs, rather than staying stuck in a model that once worked.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

inspiring- the environment allowed us to feel safe learning from one another- a rare experience in true group supervision.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

As I was saying, it would soar. More full-time staff, ability to serve more clients sooner, a scholarship fund available to support other important and collaborating services in the community as well as individual community member needs and ideas.

Ways to make it better...

I could have found a similar experience in the work world after leaving the Women's Center.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

financial- perhaps this has changed since I was last involved, but this organization could soar with adequate funds.

One thing I'd also say is that...

I love the Women's Center...

How frequently have you been involved with the organization?

About every week
