Review for Irving Schools Foundation, Irving, TX, USA
As a parent with 4 children enrolled in Irving ISD, I have seen the Irving Schools Foundation at work for many years. When I was working with the PTA at their school, I saw the students receive books, classroom supplies, and heard stories of graduating seniors that received scholarships for college. It was not until two years ago, however; that I was on the receiving end of the work of the Foundation. Newly divorced, I was starting over in the "real world" of a full time job, and working to earn a college degree to become a teacher. I applied for, an was chosen to receive a scholarship from the Foundation as a staff member of the district. Later in the school year, I was asked to work in a summer reading program at the same school.
So many children in our community are growing up in homes where there are no books, with no exposure to conversational English, and little to no parental guidance. The programs that ISF can support with grants will help to support not only our students' academic needs, but also their social/emotional needs-while allowing the funds that the district receives in their annual budget to continue so that our schools have the staff they need to provide services to the students that need them. We truly work as a team.
