Review for Co Partners Of Campesinas, Alexandria, VA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

Co-partners of Campesinas works with rural women from isolated communities in El Salvador and Guatemala to improve girls', youth, and women's education/training, health, income, and influence. We bring rural women and girls together in a central location, we call then hubs, for weekly classes and then support them in forming and running a training center with the help of a small, annual donation. We also support existing women's networks or organizations whose focus is similiar to ours. With the exception of paid instructors, we are an all volunteer organization, both in the U.S. and Central America, supporting our groups via email, phone and 1-3 volunteer visits a year.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

The development of members of our first organization has been amazing. They have started small businesses in dressmaking/ tailoring, food, and natural medicine; they manage a scholarship program; and take leadership roles in their communities.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Expand fundraising approaches and increase volunteers to strengthen current hubs and start new ones.Currently there are two volunteer trips each year, one to Guatemala and one to El Salvador. We need more volunteers who often later become board members.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

Working with an on-going group over sixteen years.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Volunteers are enthusiastic and dedicated. They pay their own way, usually about $1,000, for 10 to 14 days of very hard work!

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Organize women's hubs throughout Guatemala and El Salvador and expand into Honduras and Nicaragua.

Ways to make it better...

some of the politics were not so tricky!

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

Fundraising and finding volunteers who are available when we need them.

One thing I'd also say is that...

Working with Co-partners is one of the most exciting commitments in my life. I have learned more and been more appreciated in this work than in any thing else I've done.
