Review for Alliance For International Women's Rights, East Chatham, NY, USA
I've been a volunteer Coordinator for AIWR's English Program in Afghanistan since January of this year. I work with the on-site coordinators in Kandahar to pair girls and women in Afghanistan with our worldwide network of English teachers. AIWR screens our volunteer teachers (for programs in both Afghanistan and Nepal, in addition to our volunteer mentors) to make sure they have the necessary professional qualifications and cultural sensibilities. It's a joy to watch the connections between our teachers and students grow. And, when one of our students moves on from our classes to attend university, we're all filled with such joy for her future successes! It is an honor and privilege for me to work with such a talented and dedicated group of women - both on the volunteer side and the student side. AIWR's English classes are so much more than just language learning. They facilitate intercultural exchanges and give women around the world, who otherwise would never have met, the opportunity to develop lifelong connections.
