My Nonprofit Reviews
Review for 1736 Family Crisis Center, Los Angeles, CA, USA
I write this review as I reflect on the seventeen days I spent as a resident of 1736 Family Crisis Center. Now some twenty years later, I look back and realize how lucky I was to stay there.
Imagine growing up in a single parent home and having your mom decide that she’s no longer interested in parenting. You’re thirteen years old when she kicks you out. What do you do? Where do you go? You are completely vulnerable with no one to take care of you.
I was fortunate that when I found myself in that exact situation, someone referred me to 1736. I have only fleeting memories of my time there, but one emotion remains: I felt safe. The people there advocated for me and helped me find a long term solution to my situation. They educated me about real life, when I was too young to realize that I even needed to know these things.
It’s obviously complex to evaluate a nonprofit’s worth. Clearly every person’s situation is different, but I know that I wouldn’t be where I am today without 1736. Eventually I attended and graduated from UCLA, earned my Masters, and am living a happy and healthy life.
Thank you 1736 for being there for me when I needed it most.
