Review for Florida Trail Association Inc, Gainesville, FL, USA

Rating: 5 stars

I've been a member of FTA for 17 years and have enjoyed my membership thoroughly. I have been on FTA sponsored activities and have lead some myself - both are great fun. The FTA strives to make the Florida National Scenic Trail a premier trail with the National Trail System. Further, it highlights to unique Florida experience for nature enthusiasts nations-wide and beyond. Not only building and maintaining this key scenic hiking trail but protecting and preserving a corridor of natual Florida for us, our children, and our children's children. I have volunteered with the FTA almost from the beginning and have held many positins supporting the mission and vision of the FTA. The FTA continually strives to save for the future and educate the present the special place that is Florida.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

being in a leadership position and helping define and direct the efforts of this organization towards achieving its mission.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Expand the paid staff so that the volunteers could beeter do their jobs and be able to run and monitor more programs for both the public and its members.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

Being able to get out and experience natural Florida safely. Being able to participate in the direction of the organization.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Great. Dedicated and knowledgable. Everyone puts a geat deal of effort in managing and supporting the organization.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Greatly expand its programs to include much more outreach and education of the public on both natural Florida and how to enjoy it without killing it. Additionally, it could support member efforts better on meeting its mission objectives.

Ways to make it better...

We had more money and weren't constantly worrying about funding critial programs.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

Membeship retention, recruiting new members, making our programs relevant to a younger generation, finding the funding to support increased objectibves.

One thing I'd also say is that...

Funding supports staff supports volunteers support members support the general public. An idea - a mission - isn't enough, there has to be the resources to achieve that mission or all is lost.

How frequently have you been involved with the organization?

About every week
