Review for Children International, Kansas City, MO, USA

Rating: 2 stars

It was Christmas, and we received a solicitation from Children International for a Christmas gift for our sponsored child. We donated $50 in addition to our monthly support payment. Later we were notified that our sponsored child received pajamas. $50 for pajamas. We were not happy. When we wrote Children International, we were informed that they pool the extra Christmas donations so every child they sponsor can get at least something, even if their sponsor did not donate extra money for this purpose. We sort of understood but were annoyed we were not informed upfront. Now it's our sponsored child's 15th birthday...very special in Latin America. Basically, we were told the same thing. They did add that, if we donated $100, we could specify what we wanted her to get and receive a picture of her with her birthday gift. We feel this is just another fundraising tactic, that birthdays should be handled differently than Christmas and that $50 should be quite sufficient to get her something special for her 15th birthday. We are dismayed at these turn of events and are unsure of our future with Children International.

Review for La Reserva Forest Foundation, Shelby Twp, MI, USA

Rating: 5 stars

My husband and I met the founder of La Reserva within 6 months of moving to Costa Rica and I knew immediately that Roberta was the “real deal”, as a mutual admirer so aptly once described her. The dedication of both Roberta Ward Smiley and Daniel Spreen Wilson to the native forests and its inhabitants is refreshingly sincere and their energy astounding. What they have accomplished on a shoestring budget is, by itself, a testament to their devotion to their cause. The ramifications of their accomplishments will not only restore habitat for the rainforest and its flaura/fauna, but provide desperately needed carbon absorption for the world’s floundering atmosphere. LRFF’s focus is remarkable; I just wish enough funding was available to make more of their dreams come true.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

their tree plantings, sloth rescues, getting the gov't to install monkey bridges. Their energy is directed to all facets of saving and planting trees as well as the wildlife and native plants.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Focused, sincere, eager to do the right thing by nature

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

literally increase the world's oxygen a million-fold and surely change the world's valuation of trees and nature

How frequently have you been involved with the organization?

About every week
