My Nonprofit Reviews
Review for Combat Wounded Coalition, Inc., Chesapeake, VA, USA
I've volunteered for this organization for several years now, and continue to be impressed by how hard the staff and other volunteers work to recognize and improve the lives of wounded warriors, people who have lost family members (gold stars), and now even those who are suffering with PTSD and TBI. I have personally seen the tax audit that verifies 83% of donations go back to mission, which is way more than other major organizations who serve the same target market.
Having volunteered here on a regular basis, I have also heard about those who have taken offense because the founder didn't cater to their every whim. I can understand the desire to want recognition, which they do work hard to provide for their donors (I've helped set that up, myself.) However, Wounded Wear and the Combat Wounded Coalition exists to help those who have served and lost significantly, whether it is a limb, a member of the family, or a sense of purpose and value. If you come in with a sense of entitlement and think that the staff and volunteers will put you above their mission, this organization may not be the right fit for you. And the nice thing is… That's okay! Find what works for you and put your heart into it. You'll never be satisfied, otherwise.
