Review for The Coming Home Project, San Francisco, CA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

Because of the dedicated service of the Coming Home Project for the military and veterans who have served in Iraq and Afganistan, and the integrity and high esteem of the organization in the therapeutic community,I chose to become a volunteer therapist. I have been working with a Marine who has served two tours of duty in Iraq and he states that his experience in therapy has changed his relationship to his past, his self, and his relationships. The support for Veterans and for clinicians is exemplary, and the difference that is being made with Veterans will have far reaching effects. I have been a therapist for over 20 years and have managed many non-profit programs, and CHP is one of the finest I have ever known. I truly hope they are honored for their amazing contribution.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

seeing the difference in a veterans relationship to himself and his life. When he began therapy he was drinking and using drugs daily, and he is now working recovery, getting all A's in his college classes, has a positive relationship with his family.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

want it to have more visibility to be able to reach more veterans and their families, and to inspire more therapists to volunteer their time to make a huge difference through therapy and the healing that occurs through the retreats.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

working with the veteran, the clinical support I receive through continuing education and the case consultation group offered for therapists.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

highly professional, with the highest integrity, and dedicated to healing for the survivors of war.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

make a huge difference in healing the wounds of war and creating world peace.

Ways to make it better...

All has been excellent!!

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

needing more visibility and more funding to be able to reach more veterans and their families.

One thing I'd also say is that...

of my full psychotherapy practice, the veteran I am working with is the most dedicated client I have ever worked with. He recently said that because of his work in therapy, he can feel himself healing and now wants to live his life fully.

How frequently have you been involved with the organization?

About every week
