My Nonprofit Reviews
Review for Angelight Films Incorporated, New York, NY, USA
In October of 2013, I met with Stephanie Angel with the hopes of becoming an intern. I had recently graduated from college, and wanted to get involved with a nonprofit organization that had an important social cause with personal and long-lasting results. After my meeting with Stephanie Angel, I quickly discovered that I had found one of those rare small nonprofit organizations, which is purely dedicated to its noble cause. It is an organization that I am proud to have been a part of.
Angelight Films consists of humble people who seek to encourage the talent of brave children, who have or are undergoing a traumatic experience. Within the initial meeting with a prospective Angelight Star, the child is acknowledge as a powerful leader with a strong message to tell the world, and that their crew is merely there to help them translate their ideas into film form. Over the course of a couple of months, strong bonds are made between the child and the crew, as the Angelight Star develops valuable skills during each stage of film production. Once a film is completed, a screening is held, where the child can share their work with their family, friends, and community.
Angelight Films is a one-time experience, but it has lasting effects. The children become stronger leaders and gain communicational, organizational, and disciplinary skills that are required in film production. The friendships formed during production are permanent, as Angelight Films never looses contact with their stars and their families.
