Review for Pinups for Charity , Arvada, CO, USA

Rating: 5 stars

Where to start...

3 years ago, my husband and I were the parents of a son freshly diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder. He was a danger to himself, constantly running away and slipping out of our home. Banging his head on the floor and shrieking and crying happened everyday, all day. We were scared and overwhelmed and of course went to Google to start looking for the best things to help our situation. One of the ideas was a service dog for kids with ASD which would provide tethering capabilities for public outings, trailing of scents in case he did get away from us, deep pressure on his body for when his senses were overloaded and friendship/emotional support to our son. We started a GoFundMe really meant for friends and family who had expressed their desire for wanting to help us with our sweet boy. One day I got an unexpected email from the Pinups for Charity. I remember opening it and feeling like the wind had been knocked out of me. They had noticed our story and wanted to help us in fundraising the $10k+ that it was going to cost for a dog that could changes our lives.

That year we were supported by our friends and family near and far and locally by the Pinups for Charity. We were a military family stationed in Colorado away from all of our family. We definitely didn't have the money that was required to obtain this dog. The GoFundMe was doing okay but there was no way we could have raised the whole amount on our own. These ladies swooped in, scooped us up in their loving arms and selflessly dedicated their time and energy to helping us. I've never been affected directly by a charity like that before and it was so humbling and amazing. Lots of tears (happy and grateful ones) for these women and the love and generosity they showed us.

We have been waiting a long time to get this dog as there were certain age requirements before my son could be matched. But here we are, 3 years later and about to receive Ranger in the next couple of months. He's completely paid for and we are able to relax a little and enjoy watching our son make his first friend without the looming cloud of us going into debt over it.

It's going to be so incredible for my son to be able to go out in public, tethered to his new friend, and have the independence any 5 year old should have. We won't have to worry about him darting off in the store while we are looking for something to buy, resulting in us bolting after him, trying to catch him before he goes out a door and into a parking lot. Ranger will be there, lying down, preventing him from running. When our son has a major meltdown in that same store, lying on the floor screaming and crying, Ranger will be able to go over and lay his body across his to try and soothe him. These are just a couple of examples of our everyday lives that make going into public difficult. Ranger is going to make all of this so much easier on our family.

This ended up being longer than intended but truly, honestly, the women in this charity group have hearts of gold and blessed us in ways beyond our imagination. Thank you, ladies... From the bottom of our hearts, now and forever. We will never, ever forget what you did for us.

All of our love,
The Livingstons

Pinups For Charity is an amazing organization. They have chosen our family to help this year as we work to raise money for our little boy (diagnosed with autism last year) get a service dog. They have been incredibly helpful, giving and all around caring for us and our little man. They are such a blessing!
