Review for Nivedita Center For Learning, Dundee, IL, USA

Rating: 5 stars

This is a great organization. I am an American working in India and I know the girls who benefit from this organization. The director has provided them with life skills, education and tons of love. The overhead is nothing and everything goes to the girls.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

the way the girls are serious about their studies and want to learn new things. This was a disadvantage group with lots of "baggage" and they have overcome obstacles but yearn to do well in studies and try out new things.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

be a saint!

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

the girls at the center have horrific backgrounds. Though they function well due to the care given to them. They are loved and it shows.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

organized, knew everything, had plans for the future, etc. They really care for the girls and it shows.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

change the lives of so many girls who are otherwise forgotten in this part of India. However, you would need to find the right staff. This organization does not work without people like the director. She cares so much- these girls are her life.

Ways to make it better...

.. no complaints.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

funding. The girls have aspirations to be educated beyond their peers and some are looking to go overseas for their education. They need funds for both. Their daily needs are met, but funds are needed for their dreams!

One thing I'd also say is that...

This organization's model is one for replicating- a small group of girls living with one dedicated caretaker for essentially their up bringing, while still maintaining family contacts.

When was your last experience with this nonprofit?

Role:  Professional with expertise in this field & taught the girls some activities, sports, etc.
