Review for Sierra Club, Oakland, CA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

I am from a lumber company-owned town, so you can imagine how I felt about the Sierra Club! My opinions have changed over the years, as I have learned more about non-profit conservation organizations. I have become involved with trips led by Sierra Club members and have had long discussions about what is right and what is wrong with how we, as a country, treat our lands. I believe that the Sierra Club is on the right path towards giving our grandchildren a country they can be proud of.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

their National Outings program. Very professional, despite being run by volunteers.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

strengthen the local chapters and follow their leads to improve the image of the Sierra Club.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

meeting like-minded people (regarding conservation), and feeling like I was having a unique experience.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

positive and well-trained.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

do a lot more grass roots work at many local chapters.

Ways to make it better...

more people signed on with varying political views. I'll admit I don't know how that might occur!

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

not always being constructive. I admire other organizations who try to avoid the head-to-head combative approach.

How frequently have you been involved with the organization?

About every month

When was your last experience with this nonprofit?

Role:  Volunteer & I now lead National Outing trips to Hawaii and Midway. The trips are a combination of activity trips, holiday outings, and service trips.
