Review for Arizona Animal Welfare League, Inc., Phoenix, AZ, USA
Arizona Animal Welfare League is an amazing no-kill shelter in Phoenix. When I adopted a dog from them and I saw how much they loved and cared for him, I knew I had to be a part of it and help care for dogs before they are adopted by other people as well, so I became a volunteer. I call it the "country club" of shelters since it is so clean and spacious, and the animals receive so much care and attention. The staff forms bonds with many of the dogs and cats and know their particular personalities well, so they are able to choose a good match for families who come to adopt. The goal is to adopted them out to forever homes and of course never see the animals have to return to the shelter again.
AAWL allows its volunteers to participate in numerous areas of the shelter, including direct animal contact right from the start. They invest a lot of time in training and explain the reasons behind the protocols required in interaction with the animals and our responsibilities as volunteers. We, as volunteers, are offered multiple areas to assist in. Socializing and spending time with the animals, taking dogs offsite for a couple of nights when the shelter is closed, participating in offsite adoption events, adoption counseling, administrative help, assisting in the vet clinic, just to name a few. I am MORE than proud to be a part of the volunteer team and I have exposed myself to almost every area offered.
