Review for HILLBARN THEATRE INC, Foster City, CA, USA
A gem of a building. Intimate seating, close to the stage action. But the place is in distress. The buikding is old and in need of real overhaul. It is dirty, not maintained and smells like septic in the ladies room/lobby. I recently was made aware that the staff has changed again. It seems that Hillbarn is not good at keeping staff, lots of changes and the most recent staff change has hurt the organization. The shows are fair to good, but the current season is drab. Prices are too expensive for the quality of work that they actually are producing.

I would hire a cleaning service and bring back the old staff, specifically, Joe and Toni.

the connection to the others in our community who support this place. Group of us see the shows together and enjoy our time out of the house.
The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...
The staff that was there in 2007 and 2008 had the right touch. Kind, friendly and created good shows. The young man who was on staff then even walked me to my car in a rainstorm after one of the performances. They were very professional and I miss them
If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...
Produce with a better staff, clean up the place and charge then what they are charging now for tickets.
Ways to make it better...
I didn't feel intimidated by their Executive Director. She is always asking for money and donations and it makes us feel uncomfortable. Her plea is phony and uncalled for. I am there to see the shows, not to feel bad about their budget problems.
In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...
a lack of creative staff and direction. Money problems in this economy.
