Review for Alborada Spanish Dance Theatre, Fords, NJ, USA

Rating: 5 stars

The ten years or so that I have been involved with Alborada Spanish Dance Theatre and its executive director, Eva Lucena, have given me a wealth of artistic, cultural, educational and practical experiences. As a student, the study of dances from the many regions of Spain and around the world has given me such an appreciation of the immensity of the influence and appeal of Spanish music and dance. One does not have to be of Hispanic heritage to fall under its spell. I have had the opportunity to perform some of these beautiful dances at senior centers, hospitals, schools and festivals. Sharing this passion for dance with such appreciative audiences is very rewarding. Working with and learning from the many talented members of Alborada's company is such a pleasure. Their loyalty and hard work is inspiring. The most inspiring is Eva, herself. She works ceaselessly to maintain the high standard of the company that she co-founded with Maria Alba and to create opportunities to bring Alborada's cultural treasures to the public.
Signing up for flamenco lessons ten years ago was a leap of faith and turned out to be one of the best things I have ever done for myself. And one more thing, I LOVE the costumes!

Review for Alborada Spanish Dance Theatre, Fords, NJ, USA

Rating: 5 stars

As a student of Alborada, I find the study of flamenco and the regional dances of Spain such a beautiful and uplifting experience. It has enriched my life. I have talked to so many people and they all say that since becoming involved with Alborada, whether through lessons, volunteering, or just enjoying the performances, that a whole new world has opened up for them. There are many opportunities to volunteer to perform at festivals and events that serve the community, like The Freehold Latino Festival, on the boardwalk in Belmar, The East Brunswick Street Festival, The Lakewood Renaissance Faire, The Internatioal Festival at Red Bank Elementary School, and The Metuchen June Bug Festival. Alborada students give their time and, in return, reap the rewards of of the joy of performing these gorgeous, culturally and historically rich dances! Nowhere else could this be but as a student of Eva Lucena, who nurtures us all, and Alborada. I can immerse myself in a culture and history that is not my own, but that resonates deep within me. Flamenco is age-friendly, and does not require a certain body type in order to participate. As long as I can strap on my flamenco shoes, I will continue to study and learn and, hopefully be an ambassador of good will to this wonderful world.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

seeing the appreciation on the faces of the people who attend the community events. Their excitement is contagious!

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

How I have come to realize my own creative potential and been able to go beyond my boundaries. It was something that I didn't think would happen.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Positive, hardworking, helpful, fair, and generous with their time and advice.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Do a lot more of what it is already doing.

How frequently have you been involved with the organization?

About every week
