Review for Guardettes Of Orange County Inc, Garden Grove, CA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

This is my daughter's 4th year dancing with the Guardettes. Prior to that she was taking classes at a dance studio. I am amazed at the growth she had mad as a dancer and a team member is such a short time. She loves it!!! She is 11 and wants to take as many classes as she can. She has many friends on the team. The girls and boys on this team are wonderful young people. They are caring and look after the younger ones. The classes have really helped my daughter to shine as a dancer. She was ready to quit dancing because I think the studio atmosphere was not right for her. With Guardettes her skill has improved so much. She tried out for Orange County High School of the Arts recently. We hope she gets in, but she won't quit Guardettes even if she does. She made that very clear. As a parent, I enjoy the "family" atmosphere at this studio. We have bbq's, pool parties, sleepovers and lots of fun. To help keep costs down, parent's volunteer their time (15hrs a big deal) so we get to know each other very well. The coaches are great leaders/choreographers/dancers/role models. My daughter knows she has to work hard, but she also gets told "good job" when she has done something well. This studio does not take the fun out of dance. I would recommend this team to any family who wants a low-cost dance program that is family-oriented. It is a great experience for parents and dancers.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Seeing how my daughter has grown as a dancer and participating as a parent volunteer. I am Booter Chair Mom and also Big Show Chair. It's amazing to see how the girls grow when we get to see them at the end of the year Big Show!

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

wave a magic wand to make the studio bigger and up to date. Unfortunately the economy has hit the non-profits hard.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

Watching the girls grow as dancers and building relationships with amazing people. The other parents are very friendly and caring. Because it's low-cost we get a variety of people so the diversity makes it so much better for everyone.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

The staff are knowledgeable and enthusiastic. While they can be tough at times, they are always caring and helpful. They really care about the dancers and help them to follow their dreams.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Provide an excellent dance experience to kids on a much bigger scale. It is heartbreaking that kids who want to dance, can't do so because of finances. With 10 million bucks, dance would be available to every dancer, no matter their ability to pay.

Ways to make it better...

My experience has been wonderful with Guardettes. I wish we had more girls/boys who could experience what my daughter has.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

Economic issues. It's hard in these times to ask for money. Even big corporations are feeling it and not making as many contributions as they used to. We just have to hope it all works out.

One thing I'd also say is that...

If you have a child that loves to dance, no matter what level they are, Guardettes has a class/team for them. They will benefit greatly in more ways than just dance.

How frequently have you been involved with the organization?

About every week
