Review for Asheville Humane Society, Asheville, NC, USA

Rating: 5 stars

I have been an active volunteer in several different roles for Asheville Humane Society (AHS) for over 10 years. They have a beautiful, clean facility with professional, dedicated, well-trained, and caring staff. They take excellent care of the animals including numerous on-site and off-site enrichment programs. They have a large number of speciality programs including foster and neonatal care, outreach services to the community, transport/relocation, working cats program, Canine Good Citizens training, Hiking Hounds/Urban Tails, and numerous special events. They make volunteers feel welcome as part of the "AHS family" and are always open to suggestions/new ideas. They are transparent about sharing information and are always looking for innovative ways to improve/expand their services to the shelter animals and the community.

I have been a volunteer for Asheville Humane Society for 10 years. I am a foster parent, I groom the dogs coming up for adoption, and I am a member of their Marketing Committee. Their staff is very appreciative of all the contributions the volunteers make to the organization. They welcome feedback, idea sharing, and have made me feel like a member of the "Asheville Humane Society family." Everyone there loves animals and does everything possible to make sure the animals in their care are healthy, happy, and thriving. I love that they have so many enrichment programs for the animals that are fun for the volunteers to participate in too!

I am a retired professional dog groomer who has been volunteering at Asheville Humane Society for 7 years. I bathe and groom dogs and cats so that they will be more likely to get adopted. I also am a foster parent for Asheville Humane. One of the things I like best about Asheville Humane is that they never give up on the animals. They do everything they possibly can to make every animal healthy and adoptable. They have a great track record adopting out senior and special needs animals. They have an extraordinary medical team, and they also send animals to outside veterinarians if they need special care or surgeries. They have a state of the art Adoption Center with a caring, welcoming staff. They have innovative programs that transport dogs to other shelters up North were dogs are in shorter supply. They have a "food pantry" program and a "safety net" program that helps people in the community who have fallen on hard times to feed and care for their pets in their homes instead of surrendering them to the shelter. They have a large foster program to get animals out into foster homes where they can recover from their illnesses or be socialized in preparation for adoption. They have low-cost rabies/shot clinics and micro-chip clinics. They have a full-time lost and found department that unites hundreds of lost pets with their grateful owners. They even have a program where homeless people can keep their pets at the shelter until they find a new home. Asheville Humane Society is a lifeline to the homeless pets of Buncombe County and they work tirelessly to rehabilitate and re-home them. I am proud to be a volunteer with this organization.
