My Nonprofit Reviews
Review for CityScience, Brooklyn, NY, USA
I am the Education Specialist at Grand Street Settlement and have been working with CityScience's "Transformers-- New City" curriculum as part of the DYCD's Summer 2014 programming. To complement our classroom work with bridges, we coordinated a Brooklyn Bridge visit with Executive Director Thor Snilsberg, who was very responsive to all communications and flexible with scheduling. The Grand Street Settlement summer camp participants engaged in a variety of activities presented by Thor, who kept them focused and having fun. I really appreciated the interdisciplinary nature of the presentation-- Thor spoke to them about both the engineering and history of the bridge, providing for the varied interests of the participants. The hands-on activities reinforced engineering concepts, while allowing the kids to get moving in the outdoor space. Overall, it was a great experience for the participants and staff alike, and I would strongly recommend CityScience programming to anyone looking to make science fun and relevant to kids.
