Review for Los Angeles Habilitation House, Long Beach, CA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

Working for LAHH gives me a gift to see first hand how work with all of its tasks, demands, joys, accomplishments, time, and energy builds a person, first and foremost how this work builds me. Work is a path of love therefore what I do each day for LAHH, be it pay an invoice, make a phone call, provide on the job support, or something else gives me the chance to build my life and the life of another person. We recruit and hire people who otherwise would be without a job, without a place to make their contribution.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

that the employees have increased hours worked per day from 2 hours per day to 5 hours per day. The employees have become free in front of their jobs and each other. A promotion has been given based on excellent technical ability and increased capacity to give a critical judgement.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Increase awareness with local businesses, donors, foundations, and corporations.

Role:  Board Member & I support the daily activities of this organization. .

What strkes me the most about working for LAHH is to watch the change taking place in my colleagues - young adults who live with an intellectual disability. Before working at LAHH they didnt talk, smile, or laugh so often. Now I have to tell them we all have to go because we have been laughing and talking for hours and work is waiting for all of us! A few guys shared with me and Guido recently that we are their best friends, best friends forever. For me, this is true now too!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

number of employees grow fr 1 to 13 in a 16 month period; people looking at a photo exhibit in NYC Marriott Times Square of LAHH and the first comment is on the smiling faces of the 13 employees; revenues holding steady in 2009!

When was your last experience with this nonprofit?

Role:  Board Member & I helped to hire 10 guys with an intellectual disability into a job and to keep that job!.
