Review for Harriet Tubman Pto Aftercare Inc, West Orange, NJ, USA
For most parents, it’s not always easy to prepare you children for state testing. Work, stress and life issues always cause a barrier for your children during test times. Harriet Tubman Aftercare has a framework which fosters test preparations and makes children more comfortable with taking test in general. Every Friday, the second graders of Harriet Tubman PTO Aftercare are given practice NJ ASK tests. Ms. Dent and Ms. Robinson make sure that the classroom’s atmosphere is arranged as if the students were taking the NJ ASK. The students are given one section of the NJ ASK each Friday and timed for each section. After the students take the tests, the tests are scored using the scoring rubric of the NJ ASK. Ms. Carol then goes over any questions the students might not have understood and explains and shows how to get the correct answer. The tests are also put into a folder for each student and given to the parent at the end of the year. In the folder is also a copy of the scoring rubric of the NJ ASK so they can see where the child needs improvement as well as what their child is proficient at. Ms. Carol does this so that the students will be prepared next year when they take the test. She also stated that this will help the students be ahead next year and with giving the parents their child’s folders, it can help the parents understand the scoring and where their child was and how their child has improved. During the week, after the students are done with their homework they work independently on reading comprehension and math workbooks that are provided to them. These workbooks ask questions in the form of how the NJ ASK’s questions are. These workbooks are checked and explained to the student how to get the right answer as well. When some of the students were asked why they like taking the practice test, their responses were: “It makes me prepare for and ready for next year” I would highly recommend this aftercare program to everyone. My daughter has learned a lot and wants to talk everyday about what she has learned for the day and how nice the ladies are that worked there.
