Review for Homeward Bound of Marin, Novato, CA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

Homeward Bound is absolutely outstanding! Our family discovered this incredible organization when delivering holiday "Street Packs" (Winter Survivival Kits for the homeless) five years ago and were amazed to discover their beautiful shelter located right in our backyard and to learn about all of the services that they provide to help the homeless and those in need. We have been supporting them ever since, from serving meals in their Fresh Starts Kitchen and organizing blanket and towel drives, to designing flyers and raising money through school bake sales. The most impressive aspect of Homeward Bound is that they are working to end homelessness through job training, counseling and other critical support services that will open doors to a new future of independent living. The staff at Homeward Bound provide these opportunites with compassion and dignity and we are extremely fortunate to have this wonderful agency in our community.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Through volunteering with my family and my daughter's efforts to support them, I have seen that once you step up to help, a lot can be done. My daughter's towel and blanket drives have generated hundreds of donations for their shelters.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

Working with the caring staff and meeting the people who are benefiting from their outreach services. The staff appreciates every little effort you make to contribute and motivates you to want to do all that you can to support them.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Kind, compassionate and hardworking. The staff is making a real difference and turning peoples lives around. The volunteers come from all walks of life and the staff is successful at plugging volunteers into areas in which they have expertise.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Continue to employ strategies that will help end homelessness. They have been successful already and could do wonders to expand their programs and facilities to help even more people in need and to serve as a model for other agencies to follow.

Ways to make it better...

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

Funding. There is never enough money to meet the needs of the growing homeless and low-income population. The weakening economy has made this even more of a challenge.

One thing I'd also say is that...

Our community is extremely fortunate to have Homeward Bound serving the homeless in our area. They are a shining example of what can be done to give people not just a hand out, but a hand up.

How frequently have you been involved with the organization?

About every month
