Review for Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue, Sebec, ME, USA

Rating: 5 stars

We adopted our babies Romeo and Ryker from the rescue in February of 2012 and have been following ever since. Actually, I have been following the rescue since 2011 when my baby Ryker (badly injured dog found in a ditch in Dallas, TX) appeared in the Dog Examiner and I found and followed the rescue that took him. We are military and lived in a beach front condo at the time. When we lost our baby in November of 2011 so my husband started calling GSD rescues. We were told no by many because we didn't have a yard but Jenny (being a no-nonsense, common sense person) asked us what our plans were. She seemed to be the only one that understood that you can have big, young, energetic dogs in a condo if you put forth a lot of effort - many long walks (on the beach, oh what a hassle LOL), trips to the dog park, etc. So in addition to our plan and the references, etc that we provided she accepted us and the rest is history. (Note:
we have moved twice since then, both places houses with yards and I must say it did highlight the fact that no yards are hard! Or maybe the yards have made us lazy. LOL). Bottom line is Jenny is an amazing rescuer who works her butt off for the dogs and she does take her dogs back, requires it actually if I remember correctly, if it isn't working out. If something is wrong with the animal she is adopting out, the adopter will know in advance. She is very upfront, I did mention she is British right. I highly recommend this common sense, heart of gold, rescue and rescuer.

We were blessed with 2 beautiful boys that Jenny saved. We suffered a devastating loss of our GSD of almost 12 years November of 2011. That same month I read an article on Pet Examiner about a GSD puppy found in Garland Texas with a broken pelvis, RYKER. Jenny stepped up to rescue him and I started following the rescue because he stole my heart. I donated to his care and then just followed along with his progress on facebook. Jenny is great about posting lots of photos, videos and commentary about what is going on so I got even more vested in him. Then we decided to put in an application for 2 GSDs. Since we were out of state and I know how much Jenny loved RYKER, I didn't think she'd let us get him but after checking into us she did! I was so happy! We drove to San Antonio for the meet and greet and we got them! Of course we have remained in contact with Jenny, still follow the rescue, making donations and falling in love with more dogs. Jenny always goes above and beyond for these precious souls and we will forever be grateful!

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Give her a million dollars so that she could build her dream rescue area and hire all the help she needs :)
