Review for Family Service Association of Redlands, Redlands, CA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

Family Service Association is the best "hometown" charitable organization in America. It brings nearly every segment of the Redlands community together in assisting those in need in the area, primarily focused on families with children, but single men and women are also assisted. I was proud to have been the Executive Director of this great organization for ten years. It represents the best in all of us.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

the hundreds of families and children who have received help - over the years, thousands!

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

The amazing volunteers and how the community comes together to help others.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Always the most caring and compassionate.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

If I were there, I would develop a program with the schools to help many more students excel, going to college or attending technical/trade school.

How frequently have you been involved with the organization?

About every six months

When was your last experience with this nonprofit?

2008

Role:  Former staff & I was the Executive Director from 1987 to 1997 and will always support the organization with donations and volunteer.

Review for Beyond Shelter, Los Angeles, CA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

I was in a shelter for 2 years. During that time I went to school to become an elder care provider. I finished that then went to school again to become a CNA. Beyond Shelter has been there for us through good times and bad times. My worker was Fani and she knew how to keep my head up no matter what. Each time I came to Beyond Shelter a small or big miracle happened and that I'm very thankful for.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

The way I'm living and what I became.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

The faith they showed me how to be a better person.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

help more people.

Ways to make it better...

I would have finished school before, getting my GED before.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

for me, becoming a better and stronger person.

How frequently have you been involved with the organization?

About every month

When was your last experience with this nonprofit?

2009

This review is for April O., a mother who received services at Beyond Shelter's Broadway Village I Neighborhood Resource Center in South Los Angeles. I was typing from April's paper form that she filled out and it put it under my own name.

Review for Ascencia, Glendale, CA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

PATH Achieve Glendale is an outstanding program reaching out to homeless families in the Glendale area. After taking a tour a few years ago, I was really impressed. When Natalie Profant-Komuro then went to PATH Achieve, I knew that the program would be able to add even more services to truly make a difference for the homeless families and individuals who are staying in the emergency shelter. Natalie was the original program director for Beyond Shelter's "Housing First" Program - she is someone with a true lifelong commitment to helping homeless families and individuals. PATH Achieve doesn't just work with "easy" situations with quick solutions. They are one of the few organizations able to provide emergency shelter and other services to pregnant mothers and single fathers. It is a great organization with true community support.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

How the organization provides emergency housing plus on-site services, especially in the area of counseling, case management and housing.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

The community-based nature and the commitment and professionalism of the staff.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Extremely caring, thoughtful and sensitive to the needs of all.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

I think it could probably provide permanent housing for hundreds of families and individuals in Glendale.

How frequently have you been involved with the organization?

About every six months
