My Nonprofit Reviews
Review for Virginia Ballet Company And School, Fairfax, VA, USA
I have been with the Virginia Ballet Company and School since 1990, first as a parent, then a volunteer and now as a Board Member. My daughter danced there from first grade through college and still tries to visit whenever she is in town. The people there are family to her. As she grew up, i could see a confidence and self discipline develop. For this I credit Virginia Ballet. I am always amazed at the quality of the productions and the professionalism of all the dancers, from the youngest to the oldest.
As a volunteer, i learned so much about the "behind the stage" events. It was a truly enjoyable and rewarding experience. ..and it still is. I joined the all volunteer board because i wanted to see Virginia Ballet continue to be what it is, a pre-professional school of exceptional character that allows their students to learn and respect the art of ballet, perform major roles in full length classical ballets, and grow into confident adults who can function easily in the ballet world or outside of it.
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
Try to find a way to make people aware of it's value to our children and to our community. Many patrons come to a production and are surprised at the quality of our reasonably priced productions. If i could find a way to get the word out and stay within budget, that is what I would like to see.
